The Testing Program for Bright Futures Recipients

Reviewing the information for incoming UF students below should help you understand the requirement and what you need to do next.

You need only worry about this if you have earned a Florida Academic or Merit Scholar award. Although all students may still pursue accelerated options and receive college credit for them, students who are not earning a Bright Futures award don’t need to meet the Bright Futures Testing Program requirements. During Preview (new student orientation), all students will get information about how their advanced standing or credit-by-exam applies to their UF degrees.

Step 1, make sure you understand the Bright Futures Testing Program (BFTP) requirements.

Visit the "Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program: Bright Futures Testing Program" web site at:

On that site, you can click on the following useful links:

You should also print out from the above site TWO FORMS you will need:

Step 2, determine what you need to do to meet the BFTP requirements.

UF will assist you with determining whether you are already meeting the BFTP Accelerated Options requirement and whether you need to take any CLEP exams as part of your orientation to the University of Florida. During Preview (UF’s new student orientation program), UF provides you with individual academic advising. Completing your BFTP "Worksheet for Postsecondary Academic Advisement" will be part of that process.

Step 3, take any recommended CLEP exams you need AFTER Preview and BEFORE the end of your first semester of enrollment at UF.

If you have already attended Preview, but did not have all your AP/IB scores or dual enrollment grades at that time, you may need additional advice about meeting the BFTP requirements.
