Q. What is a nondegree
status?
A.
Nondegree enrollment is a restricted status enabling certain qualified
students to attend University of Florida classes. This status
in reserved for students participating in: special programs, university-affiliated
exchange programs and students enrolled at another accredited four-year
collegiate institution, seeking to complete work to transfer back
to the parent institution.
Q. How do I apply
for nondegree status?
A.
Course enrollment requires the approval of the college at the beginning
of each term. Registration for the fall or spring
term is not permitted until the third day of classes and must be
completed by the last day of late registration; failure to
register by that deadline will result in a late registration fee.
You must have a completed nondegree application form obtained
from the Office of the University Registrar and a statement of good
standing from your parent institution. For
those classes within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, present
both of these documents to the Academic Advising
Center for a representative to determine if you meet enrollment
criteria.
Q. Can I apply on-line
to take classes nondegree?
A. No, you must
meet with a college representative in order to enroll in a Liberal
Arts class.
Q. How can I see an
advisor in my college and where are they located?
A. Each college
has academic advisors available to discuss different options available
to you in their college and to discuss your academic plans and progress
toward any of their programs. Click here for a
complete list of college reps.
Q. Are there limitations
on dropping courses?
A.
Students may drop courses during the first twelve weeks of the fifteen
week term. Few drops are permitted after the deadline, so it
is important that students make the decision to drop before the published
deadline. The deadline is always listed in the Schedule of Courses
each semester.Students may drop two courses
during the first 60 hours without explanation or the approval of their
college. After they use those two "free" drops, a student must
be able to demonstrate an extenuating circumstance outside of her
control (such as serious illness, accident or family problem) and
petition for additional drops.
Q. What do I do if I
want to drop all my courses?
A.
Students may withdraw from all courses before the published deadline.
Although you will receive grades of "w" on your transcript, the courses
will not be calculated into your GPA, nor will this count toward your
"free" drops. To begin this process, you must visit the
Office For Student Services at 202 Peabody Hall.
Q. Will I be
able to use my coursework for credit towards a UF degree at a later
date?
A.
The same grading system is applicable to degree and nondegree students.
Nondegree credit is not applicable to a UF degree except by subsequent
admission to degree status and successful petition for application
of such credit. Authorization to enroll as a nondegree student
in no way implies future approval for admission as a degree-seeking
student.
Q. Is
there an extra charge for repeating courses too many times?
A.
Yes, beginning Fall 1997, any undergraduate course at UF (excluding
individualized study, Cooperative Education courses, military science
courses, and courses approved for multiple registrations) for which
a student registers more than two times will be subject to a repeat
course fee at 100% of the full cost of instruction. All students
regardless of classification or residency status, will be assessed
the fee. Any courses taken prior to Fall 1997 will be excluded.
