Q. What do I need
to transfer to the University of Florida?
A. Students
who wish to transfer directly to UF from a Florida public community college
must have completed the Associate of Arts degree and met the minimum standards
for admission to the major (see the Transfer Student
page for more information about being considered for admission). These standards include completing
all major related courses and achieving the minimum overall and major related coursework
GPA's required. Space is very limited in the college for applicants
transferring from four-year, private or out of state institutions. Such
students will be held to a higher standard for admission. Upper division transfer information
Q. How can I get
my AP, CLEP or SATII scores sent to UF?
A. Contact
the
Collegeboard
homepage for information concerning these standardized tests.
Q. How long does it take to receive a decision on my application?
A. Decisions are not made until after the published application deadline for a particular semester. It generally
takes about four weeks for a decision to be made once the application deadline has passed. However, due to the large
volume of applications received during certain times of the year, the decision
time will vary. Please be assured that your application will be carefully
reviewed and a decision will be made as quickly
as possible.
Q. How will I know
if I am admitted?
A. You will
receive a letter from the Admissions Office.
Q.
If I am not admitted, can I appeal the decision?
A. Unless
there is some new information that was not available at the time your application
was reviewed (i.e. courses in progress, new grades), there is no need to
appeal. If you are missing courses, you should schedule these courses at your current
institution and reapply (by the posted deadline) for a future term.
If you lack the overall GPA or the major related course work GPA, it is recommended
that you consult the Liberal Arts & Sciences Academic Advising transfer manual regarding the possibility
of alternative majors.
Q. I have new information and want my application to be reconsidered.
Do I need to reapply?
A. You will
not need to reapply if you are not changing terms.
If you want to update information regarding
your courses in progress, change your major, be reconsidered with new grades
etc., submit the information to the Admissions Office by the published application
deadline and request verbally or in writing that your application be reevaluated
by the College.
Q. Do I need to
reapply if I want to change my term of admission?
A.
Yes, the University Admissions Office requires that a new application
and application fee be submitted if you are changing terms.
Q. If I am admitted, when can I register?
A. All admitted
transfer students will be sent an invitation to a one-day mandatory orientation and
registration program called "Transfer Preview". Following the orientation, you may register
on-line using the University of Florida's Integrated Student Information System
(ISIS) web site. Be sure your immunization
hold is cleared prior to attending Transfer Preview and attempting to register.
Q. Is there a computer requirement at UF?
Q. What should
I take my first semester?
A. You will
be taking a combination of College basic distribution requirements and courses
for your major. These requirements will be outlined when you come to Transfer Preview.
Q. What if I am
unable to meet the conditions specified on my notice of admission?
A. Since the
majority of transfer students are still taking critical courses for their
major at the time they apply, decisions are made based on what you indicate
you will be completing prior to enrollment. However, if something happens
and you are not able to meet these conditions, it is your responsibility
to notify the College so that we can advise you on your best course of action.
DO NOT ENROLL without speaking with an advisor in the College if you are unable
to meet your admission's conditions.
Q. How can I see
an advisor in my college and where are they located?
A. Each college
has academic advisors available to discuss different options available to
you in their college and to discuss your academic plans and progress toward
any of their programs. Click here for a
complete list of college reps.
Q.
Do I have to earn an Associate of Arts degree if I am attending
a community college or can I just transfer with 60 hours?
A. The A.A.
degree is required for admission if transferring from a Florida public community
college. Priority is given to admission of these types of transfer
students under the State University System's articulation agreement.
Q. Can I just enroll
at UF to finish my missing prerequisites?
A. No, minimum
prerequisite courses must be completed prior to enrollment. However,
if your community college does not offer one of the prerequisites for your
major, contact the College and speak with an advisor to discuss your options.
Q.
If I am missing a prerequisite course but already have my A.A. degree, can
I continue taking courses at the community college?
A. Yes, you
may remain at the community college to complete missing prerequisite courses.
Q.
I was just wondering what is required to be on UF's Honor Roll or Dean's
List?
A. Criteria
used to be eligible for inclusion on the "Dean's List" is determined by the
college in which you are enrolled. If you are a Liberal Arts and Sciences
student the dean's list requires that you be enrolled full-time and earn
a 3.75 GPA with no s/u grades, grade changes or dropped courses, LS awards
dean's list at the end of each fall and spring based on this criteria.
Q. Do I need a foreign
language for admission?
A. You must
have completed at least two years of the same foreign language in high school
(send a high school transcript to verify) to meet the admission's requirement.
If you did not complete a foreign language in high school, you must complete
the equivalent in community college prior to transfer (8-10 semester hours
of the same foreign language or document an equivalent level of proficiency).
Q. Since the College
has a foreign language graduation requirement anyway, can I just be admitted
with the condition of completing my foreign language requirement at UF?
A. No. The admission's
foreign language requirement is a State University System requirement and
your application will not even be referred to the College without meeting
this requirement.
Q.
Will UF accept my CLAST exemption from my community college or do I have
to take the test?
A. UF will honor the exemption of the CLAST by the community
college if the A.A. degree is awarded but be aware that certain teacher preparation programs require CLAST scores.
Q. What if
I want to study abroad?
A. Many
UF students take advantage of overseas study opportunities. You
can get more information from the Office
of International Studies and Programs,
UF offers a variety of programs in a number of countries.
A student may study for a summer, a semester, or longer. Financial aid
is available for overseas study. A student should plan early so that
the courses taken abroad may used to meet either departmental or college
requirements.
Q. Are there
limitations on dropping courses?
A.
Students may drop courses during the first twelve weeks of the fifteen week
fall and spring term. Few drops are permitted after the deadline, so
it is important that students make the decision to drop before the published
deadline. The deadline is always listed in the Schedule of Courses
each semester.
Students may drop two courses
during the last 60 hours without explanation or the approval of their college.
After they use those two "free" drops, a student must be able to demonstrate
an extenuating circumstance outside of her control (such as serious illness,
accident or family problem) and petition for additional drops.
Q. What do I
do if I want to drop all my courses?
A.
Students may withdraw from all courses before the
published deadline. Although you will receive grades of "W" on your
transcript, the courses will not be calculated into your GPA, nor will this
count toward your "free" drops. To begin this process, you must visit
the Dean of Students Office
at 202 Peabody Hall.
Q. What
major is suggested for students who wish to pursue medical or law school in
the future?
A.
There is no specific major that medical or law
schools prefer. Students should pick a major which is of interest to
them and explore the careers which are possible with that major, just in case
medical or law school does not work out.

Q.
What happens to my GPA if I repeat a course?
A.
UF does not have any type of grade
forgiveness policy. Your academic transcript will reflect ALL attempts
of all courses you have carried. The following chart explains the outcome
of repeated courses involving only UF course work.

UF (excluding individualized study, Cooperative Education courses, military
science courses, and courses approved for multiple registrations) for which
a student registers more than two times will be subject to a repeat course
