Post-Baccalaureate FAQ

What exactly is post baccalaureate study?

Post baccalaureate status ( 6LS ) is for students who have a bachelor's degree and wish to continue their studies in Liberal Arts and Sciences without seeking immediate admission to the Graduate School.

What kind of students are accepted post baccalaureate?

As of Summer B 2003 post baccalaureate programs to pursue a second bachelor's degree or to complete prerequisites for health professions programs have been suspended until further notice due to undergraduate enrollment restrictions.  Students seeking post baccalaureate admissions to fulfill prerequisites for graduate study at UF should contact the graduate coordinator in the department with questions about admissions and academic regulations.

I am looking for information about some graduate programs at the University of Florida. Could you send me some general information about the Graduate School?

You have reached the UNDERGRADUATE advising center for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. As such, we do not have, nor can we send information concerning graduate programs. However, you could contact the department that offers the graduate programs in which you are interested directly. I would also suggest you obtain a Graduate Catalog. For information about obtaining a Graduate Catalog, you can call: (352) 392-1374. You may also view the most recent Graduate Catalog For more information about the graduate programs at the University of Florida you could also contact the Graduate School at 223 Grinter Hall, UF, Gainesville, FL 32611-5515, phone: 352-392-4646.

Are there limitations on dropping courses?

Post baccalaureate students admitted prior to Summer B 2003 who are pursuing a second bachelor’s degree or admission to a health professions program must petition to drop any course.  Students within Liberal Arts and Sciences must obtain a letter supporting the drop from their graduate coordinator.  Students seeking post baccalaureateus for graduate study, should contact the Graduate Coordinator in the relevant department for questions about postbaccalaureateission and academic regulations.

What happens to my GPA if I repeat a course?

UF does not have any type of grade forgiveness policy.   Post baccalaureate students must adhere to the program of study specified as a condition of their admission to 6LS status; and must maintain a 3.0 GPA and receive no grade in any course lower than a C.

PLEASE NOTE ALL INFORMATION IS BASED ON THE UNDERGRADUATE CATALOG AND IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE.  FOR QUESTIONS ABOUT HOW STUDENTS UNDER DIFFERENT CATALOGS MAY BE EFFECTED, PLEASE CONTACT AN ADVISOR OR YOUR APPROPRIATE CATALOG!
