Workshops:
In addition to individual advising, OHLPA offers workshops for students
interested in the post baccalaureate health professions. General Health
Profession workshops for freshmen, sophomores and transfer students are
offered during the Fall semester. Application workshops for students preparing
to apply to health profession programs are offered during the Spring semester.
Also, an interview workshop is offered each Fall semester for students
currently applying.
Health Professions
Handbook: While workshops and individual advising
sessions are available, many pre-health students' questions can be answered
by referring to the Health Professions Handbook available online at: http://www.advising.ufl.edu/ohlpa/tocHealthProfessions.html.
All pre-health students are encouraged to read this handbook early on to
begin planning for their career goals.
Pre-Med Listserv:
This list is open to all Pre-Health Professions students at UF. By
joining this list, you will learn of upcoming pre-professional events (workshops,
speakers, etc.), communicate with other Pre-Professional students, and
become a part of the Pre-Med community. To join the list, send an
e-mail to listserv@lists.ufl.edu
with the following one line in the body: "SUBSCRIBE UFPREMED-L first name
last name". You will be sent a confirmation, which means you have
to type "OK" and reply back to the listserv manager. Then, to send
an e-mail to the entire list, address it to UFPREMED-L@LISTS.UFL.EDU
The OHLPA Library:
Currently located in Room 206 of the AAC, contains catalogs of medical,
dental, veterinary medical, optometry, podiatry, chiropractic and law schools.
In addition, a computer located in the Library offers students the ability
to browse professional schools' web sites and other related sites. Important
information for preprofessional students is also posted in the OHLPA Library.
Finally, OHLPA provides
a centralized letter of recommendation service for students applying to
professional school. Students may have evaluators send letters to OHLPA,
who then sends the letters to the schools which the students designate.
Students are responsible for the cost of postage incurred. For more
information on this service, contact the AAC.

Information about the Academic Advising Center for the College of Liberal
Arts and Sciences can also be found on our home page at: http://www.advising.ufl.edu/.
From this site you can find information about all majors or minors in the
College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. This page also contains many
useful links around campus and allows students to ask questions of an academic
advisor via e-mail. Students can check their academic records, register
for classes, and create a degree audit for any undergraduate major through
ISIS located at: http://www.isis.ufl.edu/.
Please be aware that
all pre-health professions students must choose and pursue a major at UF.
It is important to remember that students do not need to choose a science
major to be competitive for admission to medical, dental, optometry, or
veterinary school. Native students will be permitted to change majors
provided they are "on-track" according to the minimum progression
standards detailed in the undergrad catalog. If you are not "on-track"
for the appropriate semester, an academic advisor in the AAC can assist
you in a plan that will allow you to be admitted to the major of your choice
or discuss an alternate plan. All students wishing to change to a
major in Liberal Arts and Sciences must first discuss their plans with
an academic advisor in the AAC. Students wishing to change to a major
outside of the CLAS must contact the other college directly.
The Academic Advising
Center is responsible for acting as an information and referral center
to provide faculty advisors and students with timely and accurate information
on university-wide requirements, policies, procedures, and referrals to
appropriate services. Students ultimately are responsible for knowing
and fulfilling all university, college, and major requirements for graduation.
Also, students are responsible for knowing and adhering to all university
policies and deadlines. It is recommended that you meet with an advisor
in your college each semester to discuss your academic progress.
Questions about major requirements should be directed to an undergraduate
advisor in the major department. The Academic Advising Center is
open M-F from 8-5 and students will be seen on a first come, first served
basis. Appointments can also be made by calling: (352) 392-1521.
