Florida Community College Students
Individuals applying to the CLAS with an AA degree from a Florida public community college will receive priority in admission under the state's articulation agreement.  Students who meet the minimum admissions criteria will be considered on a space available basis.  Prospective students can make themselves more competitive by following the recommendations for competitive applications listed below.

If an individual attends a four-year school after receiving the AA degree, the prospective student is not eligible for admission under the state's articulation agreement.  For students transferring from a four-year, private two-year, or out-of-state school, please see requirements for upper division transfer students

Prospective students must apply to a specific major.  For assistance selecting a College of Liberal Arts and Sciences degree program, please consult Where to begin choosing a major.  Once admitted, transfer students must pursue the chosen major.  If the desired degree program is not offered by the College of Liberal of Liberal Arts and Sciences, please contact the appropriate college.
Changing majors within CLAS after transferring as a junior is generally not allowed unless a student was originally admissible to the new major and can complete the new major within a reasonable time frame.

* All of the above courses may not be offered at all Florida public community colleges.  If the student's community college does not offer a recommended course, the applicant will not be held accountable for that course.

** Admission requirements are subject to change.  Requirements updated January 13, 2005.

***Although CHM 2210 is not required for admission, if you begin organic chemistry at community college, it is highly recommend that you complete both CHM 2210 and CHM221l-2211L prior to transferring.  Splitting the sequence between community college and UF is discouraged.

Additional Recommended Courses

Prior to graduation, all University of Florida students must complete the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences basic distribution requirement.  When selecting courses to complete your AA degree, it is suggested to complete some of the courses that will also satisfy the College's basic distribution requirement if time allows.  However, please be aware that UF generally only accepts 60 hours of transfer credit from a community college.  It is also recommended that you not split sequential courses between community colleges and UF.

* An earned AA degree from a Florida public community college satisfies the University of Florida general education and basic distribution mathematics and international/diversity requirements.  Prospective students are not required to complete the basic distribution requirement prior to attending the University of Florida.  Students must complete the basic distribution requirements prior to earning a University of Florida bachelors degree.  For additional information, please see "Basic Distribution Requirement" in the Liberal Arts and Sciences section of the undergraduate catalog

**  In addition to the two years secondary school, sequential foreign language courses required for admission to a Florida state university system school, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences' students must demonstrate proficiency in a foreign language at the college level. Proficiency is defined as the level of skill a student attains upon completion of a beginning college level language sequence.  Students do not need to earn a certain number of hours to complete this requirement.  Students may satisfy the requirement by completing appropriate course work with a "C" or better or a passing score on the SAT II placement exam.  For additional information, please see "Foreign Language Requirement" in the Liberal Arts and Sciences section of the undergraduate catalog .

Florida's Statewide Course Numbering System

This common numbering system is used by all public post secondary institutions in Florida to facilitate the transfer of courses between institutions.  Equivalent courses at different institutions are identified by the same prefix and same last three digits of the course number.

For example, many community colleges code general chemistry as CHM 1045.  The University of Florida identifies general chemistry as CHM 2045.  Yet, the courses are the same.  If two courses share a  prefix, such as CHM, and the last three digits of the four digit numerical code, such as  045, the courses are equivalent.

To determine if a course completed at a Florida community college or state university system school is equivalent to a course offered at the University of Florida, compare its prefix and last three digits to the course offered at UF.
