UF in Dublin: Study and Intern (CLAS & Engineering)

Study with both Irish and international students at Ireland’s Dublin City University while completing an internship. DCU is one of the best young universities in the world as evidenced by their consistent ranking in the Times Higher Education Top 100 under 50. They have a proud tradition of world-class academic excellence, research and innovation. Alongside your academic studies, you will be provided with a professional internship for approximately 10 hours per week. Placements are with companies in sectors relevant to your career and study goals. This opportunity will challenge you to deliver in a real world, work environment and help you develop the skills you should as a student in Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Program applications are located on the UF International Center website. You must schedule an appointment with Christine Richmond to have the Academic Advising form signed (this is part of the online application).

You can be any CLAS major to participate in the program. Many courses can count towards major, minor, upper-division elective, and general education requirements with prior approval. Pre-law and pre-health students are encouraged to apply. For examples of course offerings, see their course offerings. The International Internship Course consists of the actual placement which will be approximately 10 hours per week and online assignments that enhance and contextualize your internship experience. During the application process you will submit a resume and personal statement so our partners in Dublin can begin finding a placement that best matches your professional goals.


  • Any CLAS major. Students outside of CLAS may participate through the College of Engineering by completing their Academic Advising form (to be signed by Ping Neo) as part of the online application.
  • 2.5 UF GPA.
  • Valid passport and ability to get a Student Visa (support will be provided for visa application).
  • Fully vaccinated for COVID-19 (including booster).


Internship opportunities for CLAS students are available in a wide variety of areas including political science, sustainability, social work, marketing, non-profits, communication, and more. You will submit a resume and personal statement indicating your interests and skills to our Dublin partner, Learn International, so they can help find you a placement that matches your goals. You will work approximately 10 hours per week in addition to taking IDS4940 online through UF. The online course is designed to help you make the most of your experience.

Estimated Program Fee

Fall 2022 and Spring 2023:
Learn International Program Fee: €14,650 (Euros).
UF International Center Application Fee: $425 (nonrefundable, due at the time of application).
Internship Tuition Fee: Billed at your regular tuition rate for 3 UF credits (out of state students may elect to pay Learn International an additional fee for the internship credit in lieu of UF credit).
Health/Travel Insurance Fee: Approximately $41/month, subject to change

Students on this program will be billed through three separate invoices. First, you are responsible for paying the Learn International program fee directly to the overseas provider. Second, you will also be invoiced on your ONE.UF account by the UF International Center for your insurance. Third, you will be billed by UF for the tuition fee for the 3-credit IDS4940 internship course. Please be sure to speak with your Financial Aid advisor early in the application process to discuss how any financial aid or scholarships may apply.

Program cost includes:

  • Tuition for 9 credits (3 courses) at Dublin City University and 3 UF credits (IDS4940)
  • Orientations
  • Airport transfer on arrival
  • Welcome dinner
  • Dublin city orientation tour
  • Weekend trip to Galway city
  • Housing: City-center student housing (single, no meals) or Homestay (includes breakfast and dinner)
  • International travel medical insurance, 24-hour emergency support

UF Students may apply Bright Futures, Prepaid, and other scholarships toward program expenses. Program fees are the same for in-state and out of state students.

Other Estimated Expenses:


Students are housed either in single (en suite) student housing in Dublin city center, or in homestays. Homestays include breakfast and dinner and are a wonderful way to immerse yourself even more in Irish culture.


A cultural event schedule will be provided for optional activities. An overnight weekend trip to Galway is also included in the program fee.

Pre-Departure Information

Once your application is approved you will receive more information on the next steps. We’ll offer pre-departure sessions before you go as well as on-site orientations once you arrive in Dublin.

Withdrawal Policy (subject to change)

To withdraw from the program, you must notify the International Center and Program Director in writing. Please speak with the program director prior to withdrawal to confirm the policy for your term of attendance. More information can be found on the International Center’s website.

Both Learn International and UF CLAS program directors provide advising and support, however, there is no UF-employed staff on-site. You are expected to assume significant responsibility and initiative for your study abroad and intern experience.
