Orientation

A detailed orientation programme is provided for students joining in each semester. Orientation is a mandatory part of the exchange programme and students must ensure they arrive in Manchester by the date specified in their offer documents to ensure they can participate.

Credits/Courses

Alternative assessment arrangements are in place for almost all disciplines, other than the Engineering and Physical Sciences, if students joining the University for the Autumn/Fall semester are unable to stay in Manchester for the January Examination period due to conflicting semester dates at their home university. Possible courses can be found on the University of Manchester’s website. Other course equivalents are possible by contacting Dr. Brian Harfe in the CLAS Deans Office. See Key Academic Dates.

The below may be relevant if you are planning on attending Manchester University ONLY in the Fall semester (If you will be attending Manchester University for the Academic Year or Spring-only, the below does not apply).

At Manchester University, some classes have Fall assessments AFTER the winter break. Very broadly speaking, most Science & Engineering subject areas do. Psychology offers some assessments prior to the break and some after, as indicated. Most Humanities subject areas have assessments (with the exception of Economics), before the winter break (i.e., these courses would be OK to take as a Fall-only exchange student).

To determine whether subject areas offer alternative (Fall) assessment or not, select a subject area from the dropdown list on the Manchester site and then a grey box at the top of the listing will say whether an autumn assessment is available or not.

Tuition and Fees

Tuition at University of Manchester is waived for exchange students. Students participating in an exchange pay tuition directly to the University of Florida at their usual tuition rate. All financial aid, scholarships, and fellowships are applicable. Students incur no additional tuition cost while they are on an exchange.

Housing

University housing is guaranteed for students attending on a full year exchange. Students joining for a single semester are not guaranteed housing, but are almost always allocated it under normal circumstances. Application for housing is a separate, additional, online process, which students must complete AFTER receiving their offer letter from the University of Manchester. See additional information on types and costs of accommodation. View the ResLife video on living in student housing. See the housing map for additional information.

Financial Aid

University of Florida students needing financial aid should apply through UF Student Financial Affairs. Normal eligibility for aid may be used while studying abroad as an exchange student. This includes using the Bright Futures scholarship and the Florida Pre-Paid College Plan.

Scholarships

For fall, spring, and academic-year scholarships administered by the University of Florida International Center, the deadlines for application are: early March for programs starting in fall; and early October for programs starting in spring. Applications forms are available on the UF International Center website.

The Brian and Kate Harfe International Exchange Scholarship: Please note that preference will be given to students spending an entire year abroad.

Health Insurance

Students will be billed for mandatory international health insurance which includes emergency medical assistance.

This charge is due within 21 days of the application. Students will be charged regular UF tuition while participating in the program.
