I am a senior at UF studying English: Film & Media Studies in CLAS. I transferred to UF in Spring 2014 after spending some time at the Department of Cinema Studies, NYU and Valencia College. Even after only one year, I definitely consider myself a Florida Gator! When I am not working with Tau Sigma, I am preparing for graduate school and writing an undergraduate honors thesis, which pertains to the progressive state of Japan as seen through children in the films of Hayao Miyazaki. The reason I initially joined Tau Sigma was to recognize devoted and passionate hard work such as this, but ended up finding a community of people that value academic dedication and wish to recognize this in other transfer students. As president, I hope to better establish Tau Sigma at UF, take advantage of my short time here to interact with the community, prepare incoming transfer students for success, and promote academic excellence within and outside of the organization. I hope to make Tau Sigma a resource and lifeline for future Gators.

I am a third year Anthropology Major in CLAS, and after graduating I want to go on to pursue my doctorate in Occupational Therapy. I came to UF because I am the first in my family to go to college and I wanted to set the bar high for future generations in my family. I hope to meet many new students through Tau Sigma and help guide them to a more successful future at UF. I am also a part of Golden Key Honor Society and I have made the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Deans List in my first semester. Photography is something I enjoy in my spare time, mainly taking pictures around the Gainesville area.

I was born and raised in Bogota D.C., Colombia. Since I was a child, I always considered myself as a successful person full of dreams and hopes. While growing up in Colombia, I always made straight As in my classes, and I was also a very good soccer player. I graduated from high school in Colombia and that is when I decided to come to the United States to continue my education. I started my career at the University of West Florida. While studying at UWF, I achieved many things such as the dean’s and president’s list. I was also able to win a soccer tournament in Pensacola, FL with my team. After two years at UWF, I decided it was time to move to a bigger university, and that is when I transferred to UF. At UF, in just one year I have been able to get an on-campus job, a TA position, and the treasurer position at Tau Sigma.

I am the advisor for the Delta Chapter of Tau Sigma National Honor Society at UF. I also work as an academic advisor for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. In addition to providing general advising for CLAS majors and Exploratory students, I also am involved in programming support services for CLAS Transfer Students. I have worked with non-traditional college students from the time I taught Biology as a lecturer and I understand that Transfer Students need a different set of support services, and this is why I chose to serve as an advisor serving the Transfer Student population. My family emigrated from Hong Kong, and I am the first in my family to attend college. I graduated from Loyola University Chicago with a B.S. in Chemistry and then my M.S. in Biomedical Science at Barry University in Miami, FL. I taught Biology courses at Loyola University of Chicago, and also worked as a Learning Assistance Counselor. At UF, I previously worked as a pre-health advisor and have taught courses in the Honors Program. I believe education provides the tools to help us discover our talents and passions and the opportunities to use those gifts to serve to others.
