Matt Howland Salzburg support fund
In 2026, Matt Howland created the Matthew Holland Salzburg Support Fund, which will help support future participants of the Program.
Matt served as Trip Lead for the White House, traveling in advance to prepare trips for President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff. Matt led over 40 domestic and international trips, including President Biden’s wartime visit to Israel, Vice President Harris’ visit to Zambia, and Second Gentleman Emhoff’s historic visit to Samoa. Matt transitioned from the White House to the presidential campaign to serve as Director of Principal and Surrogate Trips for Pennsylvania where he oversaw the design and execution of more than 400 trips and 1,000 campaign events for both Biden’s reelection campaign and Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign. Today, Matt serves as Director of Flashpoint.AI, a technology platform democratizing polling and message testing, and moving traditional market research beyond stated preference and towards behavioral proof. Matt Howland received a BA in History in 2009 from the University of Florida.
Matt participated in the UF in Salzburg Program in 2007. He recently shared these reflections about his experience:

I visited my dear friend Ben just a few weeks ago and neither of us could understand how 16 years had passed since we first met on our trip to Salzburg. My trip to Salzburg gave me a best friend of 16 years, a mentor from whom I still seek counsel and try to impress, and truly countless unimaginable memories. I wish for each of you a journey that delivers unexpected gifts that take a decade to realize.
