Explore with purpose

Exploring with purpose means being intentional about learning what majors and careers might be right for you. With over 100 majors at UF, finding your best fit takes time, curiosity, and trying out different options. The goal isn’t to have everything figured out right away — it’s to actively explore while staying on track academically.

If you’re on the exploratory track, use your first three terms to sample different fields, reflect on what excites you, and make smart course choices that keep multiple majors open. Choosing General Education courses that introduce you to new subjects is a great place to start.

Here are some simple ways to explore with purpose at UF:

  • Browse the Undergraduate Catalog to learn about majors by interest area and create a short list of ones you want to explore further.
  • Visit the Career Connection Center (CCC) to take the C.H.O.M.P. assessment, meet with career counselors, and explore internships and career resources.
  • Use the “What If” tool in ONE.UF to see how different majors would fit into your degree plan.
  • Take electives you’re curious about—they count toward graduation and help you discover what you enjoy.
  • Talk with professors and advisors to learn more about majors, careers, and next steps.
  • Get involved on campus through student organizations and volunteering to explore interests outside the classroom.
  • Try informational interviews by talking with professionals about what their jobs are really like.
  • Check out the Occupational Outlook Handbook to learn about career paths, job outlook, and education requirements.

Exploring with purpose helps you make confident, informed decisions — and makes your UF experience more meaningful along the way.
