Astrophysics (BS): Complete MAC 2311, MAC 2312, MAC 2313, PHY 2048 w/lab, and PHY 2049 w/lab. Must typically have a minimum 2.5 overall GPA to be competitive. Must typically have a minimum 2.5 GPA on all attempts of these courses to be competitive.
Biology (BA): (This specialization is designed for biology majors interested in a career in science education and interdisciplinary fields such as environmental or biotechnology law, science journalism, and bioscience management. This degree is not meant for biology majors seeking admission into professional medical schools.) Complete MAC 1147 (or MAC 1140 and MAC 1114) or higher MAC course; CHM 1030 and CHM 1031 or CHM 2045 w/ lab and CHM 2046 w/ lab; BSC 2010 w/ lab; and BSC 2011 w/ lab. Must typically have a minimum 2.5 overall GPA to be competitive. Must typically have a minimum 2.5 average on all attempts of these courses.
Biology (BS): Complete MAC 2233* or MAC 2311, CHM 2045 w/ lab, CHM 2046 w/ lab, and BSC 2010 w/ lab, BSC 2011 w/ lab. Must typically have a minimum 2.8 overall GPA to be competitive. Must typically have a minimum 3.0 average on all attempts of these courses.
*Please be aware that most graduate or professional schools that require calculus prefer or require MAC 2311 rather than MAC 2233. In addition, please be aware that if you complete MAC 2233 instead of MAC 2311 prior to enrollment, you must complete MAC 2311 by the end of your first term of enrollment at UF since MAC 2311 is required for the Biology(BS) major at UF.
Botany :Complete MAC 1147 (for basic botany track) or 2311 (for preprofessional botany track), CHM 2045 w/ lab, CHM 2046 w/ lab, BSC 2010 w/ lab, and BSC 2011 w/ lab. Must typically have a minimum 2.5 overall GPA to be competitive. Must typically have a minimum 2.5 GPA on all attempts of these courses to be competitive.
Chemistry: Complete CHM 2045 w/ lab, CHM 2046 w/ lab, MAC 2311, and MAC 2312. Must typically have a minimum 2.5 overall GPA to be competitive. Must typically have a minimum 2.75 GPA on all attempts of these courses to be competitive. (However, the most competitive applicants have also completed either the physics or organic chemistry sequence and have B’s or better in all of the courses that apply to the major.)
Chemistry-Biochemistry: Complete MAC 2311, CHM 2045 w/ lab, CHM 2046 w/ lab, BSC 2010 w/ lab, and BSC 2011 w/ lab. Must typically have a minimum 2.5 overall GPA to be competitive. Must typically have a minimum 2.75 GPA on all attempts of these courses to be competitive. (However, the most competitive applicants have also completed either the physics or organic chemistry sequence and have B’s or better in all of the courses that apply to the major.)
Chinese: Complete CHI 1130 and CHI 1131 or equivalent proficiency. (If your college does not offer Chinese, you must contact the undergraduate coordinator (see LLC Languages) to determine if this is an appropriate major and to develop a graduation plan with an expected graduation date.) Must typically have a minimum 2.5 overall GPA to be competitive. Must typically have a minimum 2.5 GPA on all attempts of Chinese courses to be competitive.
Classical Studies: Complete two Latin, Greek or Classics courses. (If your college does not offer the above, we will look for related humanities or history courses that focus on the ancient world.) Must typically have a minimum 2.5 overall GPA to be competitive. Must typically have a minimum 2.5 GPA on all attempts of these courses to be competitive.
Computer Science: Complete MAC 2311, MAC 2312, MAC 2313, and PHY 2053 or 2048 w/ lab. Students are also strongly encouraged to complete PHY 2054 w/ lab or PHY 2049 w/ lab to avoid splitting the sequence and prior programming experience is helpful. Dual Languages: Complete a beginning level language sequence in an African Language (Akan, Swahili, Wolof, Xhosa or Yoruba), Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Russian, or equivalent proficiency. In addition to the above, complete 3 additional courses from the following list: any non-American history, ANT 2410, ARH 2050, ARH 2051, CPO 2001, ECO 2013, ECO 2023, GEO 2500, LAS 2001 LIT 2110, LIT 2120, SYG 2000. Sociology: Complete two Sociology courses. Must typically have a minimum 2.5 overall GPA to be competitive. Must typically have a minimum 2.75 GPA on all attempts of all Sociology courses (and statistics if attempted) to be competitive. Prospective applicants are strongly encouraged to complete SYG2000 as one of their two Sociology courses. Prospective applicants are also strongly encouraged to complete STA2023 prior to enrollment at the University of Florida. If not completed prior to transfer, STA 2023 must be successfully completed in the first term at UF with a grade of a C or better while maintaining a major GPA of 2.75.
Spanish: Complete SPN 1130 and SPN 1131 or equivalent proficiency.Must typically have a minimum 2.5 overall GPA to be competitive. Must typically have a minimum 2.5 average on all attempts of these courses.
Spanish and Portuguese: Complete Spanish through SPN 2200 or equivalent proficiency and POR 1130-1131. (If your college does not offer POR classes, you must meet with the undergraduate coordinator (see LLC Languages) in this major to determine if this is an appropriate major and to develop a graduation plan with an expected graduation date.) Statistics (BA): Complete MAC 2311 and MAC 2312. Must typically have a minimum 2.5 overall GPA to be competitive. Must typically have a minimum 2.5 GPA on all attempts of these courses.
Statistics (BS): Complete MAC 2311 and MAC 2312. Must typically have a minimum 2.5 overall GPA to be competitive. Must typically have a minimum 2.5 GPA on all attempts of these courses but with no grade below “B” in MAC 2312.
Sustainability Studies: Complete two from: BSC 2011, GLY2010, SYG 2010 and also recommend EVR 1001/2001 or ESC 1000. Must typically have a minimum 3.0 overall GPA to be competitive. Must typically have a minimum 3.0 GPA on all attempts of these courses to be competitive.
Women’s Studies: Complete two Women’s Studies or related courses. (If your college does not offer Women’s Studies courses, we will look for courses from other departments such as anthropology, English, and sociology that focus on gender issues.) Must typically have a minimum 2.5 overall GPA to be competitive. Must typically have a minimum 2.5 GPA on all attempts of these courses to be competitive.
Zoology: Complete MAC 2311, CHM 2045 w/ lab, CHM 2046 w/ lab, BSC 2010 w/ lab, and BSC 2011 w/ lab. Must typically have a minimum 2.8 overall GPA to be competitive. Must typically have a minimum 3.0 average on all attempts of these courses.
Tips for Junior Transfers
CLAS accepts applications for summer, fall and spring terms by designated deadlines.
Florida state college students (formerly Florida community colleges) who will have an AA degree awarded are given admission priority under the state’s articulation agreement. However, space availability still makes admission competitive.
Upper division transfer students (students applying with 60 or more hours earned) from a non-Florida state/community college are also considered on a space availability basis. (Students with 90 or more credit hours of college credit awarded – including test credits and dual enrollment – are generally not considered for admission since they are considered as senior standing at UF.)
At least half of the required prerequisite major courses must be completed (with grades earned) at the time of application review. List the additional courses you are taking as “in-progress” on your application.
Complete your major courses on the first attempt whenever possible. But if you do require more than one attempt, please be aware that both attempts (including grades of W) will be considered when your application is reviewed.
Be sure to have your current institution submit an updated college transcript as soon as new grades are posted throughout the application process.
Use the “Statement of Intent” section on your transfer application to discuss your goals and to explain any aspects of your academic background or academic record that you think would be helpful to the admissions committee.
Since the AA (Associate of Arts) degree is required for transfers from the Florida state/community college system, be sure to apply for the AA degree at the beginning of your last semester at your current institution.

Refer to Transferology to check course equivalencies that are already determined. If your transfer institution does not have courses evaluated in Transferology, you may be required to provide course syllabi during your transfer application review process.
Important Transfer Information
Applicants awarded a State of Florida articulated AA are prioritized.
Applicants transferring from a public Florida State College or Florida Community College must earn the AA degree to be eligible.
All competitive criteria must be met prior to the term of enrollment.
Maximum of 60 credits are applied to the UF degree if transferring from State Colleges or Community Colleges (public, private and/or out-of-state).
Transfer students are expected to complete the major they are admitted into.
Transfer students are expected to graduate within a total of six semesters of Fall & Spring semesters combined.
Applicants transferring from a four year university earning 90 or more credit hours (including test credits and dual enrollment) are generally not considered for admission.
