The Academic Advising Center provides advising services for students in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences (CLAS), exploratory students, pre-health and pre-law students, students in the PROMISE program for at-risk students, and other students interested in CLAS majors. General responsibilities for a graduate assistant in the AAC include advising students regarding registration, choosing and changing majors, campus resources to enhance academic success, and many other advising services. Graduate Assistants have the opportunity to get involved in different committees within our office which are focused on serving PROMISE scholars, exploratory students, and probation students. Graduate Assistants may also have the opportunity to work with the CLAS Ambassadors, sophomore leadership seminar, assessment committee, communications committee and transfer student outreach.
CLAS is the largest college on campus, with more than 700 faculty members responsible for teaching the majority of the university’s core curriculum courses to at least 35,000 students each year. CLAS has more than 10,000 undergraduate students pursuing a variety of disciplines.
In addition to being admitted to the UF Graduate School, you must be able to work both Fall and Spring semesters in order to fulfill the 0.5 FTE (20 hour/week), nine-month appointment. This position includes a tuition fee waiver for nine (9) credit hours/semester during the Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 semesters. Tuition for the specified number of credit hours for each term will be paid, but the student is responsible for the fees associated with each credit. The current annual rate of pay for this 9 month appointment is $16,000.
